Rhapsody Rocks

I'm playing around with my free trial of Rhapsody. Of all the new music services, I think this one has the best user interface. Its really easy to find songs (though they still have alot of holes to fill, music-wise.)

I listened to the Ataris release, So Long Astoria. Not bad. Though Rhapsody categorizes this band under "Punk-Pop," I believe "Emo" would be more appropriate. Why is this?

Simple. They sing in the round. If you write modern pop songs that involve a chorus where the band sings in the round, YOU ARE AN EMO BAND. I don't care if your band name only consists of 2 words (as opposed to the requisite 3), or you don't scream or sing wistfully about your high school days, if you sing in the round at any point on the record, then YOU ARE AN EMO BAND.

Michael McDonald

Going to see Michael McDonald @ Joe's Pub last night: irony or guilty pleasure? Either way, you can't resist the blue-eyed soul of the man who brought us "I Keep Forgettin'", among others. Another highlight was watching Mario Cantone and Kim Cattrall (of Steampipe Alley and Mannequin, respectively) rock out to "Sweet Freedom". Classic.

Paul Shaffer signed his own credit card receipt at the end of the night. Do you think he ever sees those statements? The man did write "It's Raining Men", after all.
